George Emanu is an entomologist attached to Malaba town council and doubles as a pastor of Miraculous Synagogue Church Ministries.
Emanu Was arrested by police as he was found in possession of a pistol with 31 rounds of ammunition, teargas canisters, and car number plates, among other assorted items inside his home in Oriyoi, Morikatipe sub-county.
His arrest comes after monkey attacks on pupils of Oriyoi primary school as some community members got concerned about why their children were dodging going to school over a hostile monkey that bites children.
However, police authorities led by the district police commander Sp Adam Kimuli and a team from the Uganda Wildlife Authority swung to action and mounted a search in the home to confirm if the allegations by the community members were true
Upon entry to his house, police recovered one pistol with 31 rounds of ammunition, 23 teargas canisters, car number plates and bhang seeds.
Police also recovered official seals of different offices such as Tororo district local government including one for Chief Administrative Officer and Tororo district Fishery officer. As the search continued, Police burst into a prayer house with a huge tunnel. Inside the house, there were cult clothes, bibles, photos with names of individuals, and charms of different colours.
However, speaking to Emanu after his arrest he says that he obtained the firearm legally and that the tear gas canisters in his possession were left by the officers who were guarding his fish farm. “I once had policemen in my fish farm.
Unfortunately, when the time came to leave the farm, two left behind their teargas canisters and he decided to keep them with me waiting for the owners to come and pick them up for the pistol he claimed to have its license as he defended his ownership of this items
Adding according to section 71 (1)(b) of the UWA Act 2019, anyone found in possession of, sells, buys, transfers or accepts the transfer of a protected specimen; commits an offence and is liable to a fine not exceeding ten thousand currency points or life imprisonment or both
